Ministry of Labor of Kyrgyzstan: 250 children are raised in 114 foster families

Currently, there are 114 foster families in Kyrgyzstan, raising about 250 children. There are also 31 candidates registered who wish to become foster parents. Since 2014, more than 400 children have benefited from the services of foster families, reports the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration, emphasizing that work to develop the foster family system in the country continues.

Every year, budget funds are allocated for the training of future foster parents and for the support of children in such families.

Regional offices of the ministry conduct regular monitoring of compliance with care and upbringing standards in foster families.
It should be noted that the procedure for providing foster family services is defined by Government Resolution of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 622 dated December 21, 2020.

Foster families, also known as adoptive or professional families, are trained families that temporarily take in children who are without parental care, by agreement. This makes it possible to create a family environment and minimize the number of children in orphanages until a permanent solution is found, such as adoption or reunification with biological parents. The state provides financial assistance to both foster parents and children. This form of upbringing is temporary but professional, while the children remain legally orphaned.
