In his message on the social network Truth Social, Trump stated: “Based on a deep and thorough analysis of the absurd and extremely anti-American decision made by the Supreme Court yesterday after much deliberation, I, as President of the United States, am immediately increasing the global tariff from 10% for countries that have been robbing America with impunity for decades (until my administration came along!) to a fully legal level of 15%. In the coming months, our administration will introduce new, legal tariffs that will continue our successful 'Make America Great Again' program – GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE!!!”
Previously, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the imposition of import tariffs by the American administration against other countries was an overreach of authority under the Economic Powers Act in cases of international emergencies (IEEPA). The highest court also did not clarify whether the U.S. should refund previously paid tariffs.
