According to Trump, the executive order on global tariffs was signed in the Oval Office and will take effect "almost immediately."
According to an official statement published on the White House website, the new tariffs will come into force on February 24 and will be in effect for 150 days.
It should be noted that certain categories of goods will not be subject to this tariff. These include critical minerals, energy resources, natural resources, as well as fertilizers that are not produced in the U.S. Exceptions also apply to certain types of agricultural products, medications, electronics, cars and other vehicles, as well as goods used in the aerospace industry.
Additionally, the tariffs will not apply to products imported into the U.S. related to national security, nor to goods covered by the trilateral trade agreement between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada (USMCA).
The statement also indicated that previously imposed tariffs, which were enacted under the emergency law, are being canceled. In particular, this refers to the tariffs imposed in April 2025 on goods from 185 countries and territories, as well as tariffs on imports from China, Mexico, and Canada that were related to combating illegal immigration and drug smuggling, as well as purchases of oil and gas from Venezuela.
Additionally, the executive order imposing 25 percent tariffs on imports from India, which was adopted in August 2025 due to that country's purchase of Russian oil, is also being canceled.
Earlier, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the imposition of import tariffs under the guise of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) exceeds the authority of the government administration. However, the court did not clarify whether the U.S. should refund previously paid tariffs.
