The Kadamjai district has still not determined the gas reserves that are surfacing.
About ten underground gas wells are located in hilly terrain, 3-4 kilometers southwest of the village of Örükzar. Gas continues to rise spontaneously from some of them. Local residents report that in the past, villages near the gas wells used "blue fuel," but its use ceased later. Due to the presence of gas in the ground, hydrogen sulfide springs are forming, and water from them flows through the ditches. This foul-smelling substance, according to residents, harms the population.
According to local authorities, Chinese investors previously conducted exploration and confirmed the presence of underground gas reserves. However, the lack of licenses and funding for the necessary infrastructure has halted operations.
“In this regard, there is a need to pay attention to the underground gas wells at the state level and establish the volumes of gas reserves,” the official statement says.

Deputy Yrysbek Atazhanov raised the issue of the Pidap natural gas field at the plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh on December 24, 2025.
According to him, there are 36 wells in the area that are not being used at all. Due to the large volume of unexploited gas in the area, the ecology and quality of drinking water are deteriorating.
Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev promised in response to visit this field during his next trip to the Batken region.
In 2014, Turmush reported that the gas reserves in this area are estimated at 500 million cubic meters. At that time, Kamalidin Karimov, a representative of the district administration, reported that these reserves were discovered as a result of geological exploration in the Pidap area.
The geological exploration work was conducted by specialists from OJSC "Batkenneftegaz," which at that time was owned by the LLC "Oil Exploration Company Zhongnen."
In 2015, President Almazbek Atambayev reported that he had asked Russian "Gazprom" to finance gas extraction in Batken. Atambayev stated that a gas field had been found in Batken, the volumes of which would be enough for 10 years to supply the south of the country with blue fuel. In particular, according to the president, he asked the company to allocate part of the funds intended for the construction of the North-South gas pipeline for the search and extraction of gas in Kyrgyzstan.
According to experts' estimates in 2015, these reserves would allow supplying blue fuel to the Osh and Batken regions.
In June 2024, Turmush reported that there is a spring in the Ak-Turpak rural district called Pidap-suu (local residents call it Sasyk-Bulak).
The underground spring continues to flow to this day. The water contains hydrogen sulfide, which gives it the smell of rotten eggs. In the air, it is neutralized.
Turmush correspondent gathered some facts about the Pidap-Suu spring. In 1875-1876, there was a military garrison in this area that belonged to the Fergana district. When the soldiers began to suffer from scabies and their bodies became covered with sores, a biologist-chemist V.V. Pidov was sent to the military garrison. Through questioning and studying the area, he discovered a spring located 8-9 km south of the Ak-Turpak area of the Kadamjai district. Now it is 9 km from the Osh-Batken-Razzakov highway.
After studying the composition of the water, biologist Pidov concluded that it had healing properties. Near the spring, he opened a medical point where he began treating soldiers for scabies. Years later, this medical point was destroyed by mudflows.
Since then, this spring has been named after the scientist Pidov. Local residents say that the water is still used for medicinal purposes today.
According to livestock breeders, cattle that drink from this spring do not suffer from liver diseases.
Gardeners believe that if they water grape plantations with water from the spring, the grape bushes will not be susceptible to various diseases.
