Askar Ismailov, an expert in the oil and gas sector, has called on the Kazakh authorities to take active measures to prevent potential crises, as reported by Ulysmedia.kz.
The specialist presented a grim forecast for Kazakhstan's oil industry, which could negatively impact the country's economy as a whole. This "catastrophic" scenario includes five key threats:
Complete shutdown of the CPC pipeline;
Inaccessibility of gas from Karachaganak at the Orenburg gas processing plant;
Emergency shutdowns at three oil refineries;
The BTC pipeline cannot accept oil due to contamination with chlorinated organic compounds;
Sanctions against the Kazakhstan-China pipeline.
— The probability of all these problems occurring simultaneously is 1÷2%, however, they are all based on incidents that have already occurred. Therefore, it is extremely important to develop proactive measures now in case they materialize: where to source gas for the population; who can ensure the supply of fuel and lubricants to Kazakhstan; how to provide heating for buildings and structures in winter that use gas. This concerns not only the Ministry of Energy but also requires cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Transport, — emphasized Ismailov in his Telegram channel Pace.
