School No. 29 in Bishkek will be named after Musa Jalil

On February 22 in Bishkek, a ceremony will take place to name secondary school No. 29 after the renowned Tatar poet and Hero of the Soviet Union Musa Jalil. This was announced by representatives of the Russian House in the city.

A delegation from Tatarstan is expected to attend the event, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister of the republic and Chairman of the National Council of the World Congress of Tatars, Vasily Shaikhraziev.

The organizers emphasize that this event will mark a significant milestone in the cultural and public life of Bishkek, contributing to the preservation of historical memory and the strengthening of spiritual values, as well as the development of cultural ties between Russia, Tatarstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Musa Jalil was a Soviet Tatar poet, journalist, and public figure who worked as a war correspondent during World War II. In 1942, he was captured and became a member of an underground anti-fascist organization. For his active stance against the Nazis, he was executed on August 25, 1944, in the Plötzensee prison in Berlin.

At the end of his life, he wrote a cycle of poems that became part of the collection "Moabit Notebook," which symbolizes courage and resilience of spirit. In 1956, Musa Jalil was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and in 1957 he received the Lenin Prize posthumously.

In 2026, the 120th anniversary of his birth will be celebrated.
