At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputy Dastan Bekeshev proposed a number of initiatives aimed at protecting children who face issues with receiving alimony.

He noted that after a divorce, women often find themselves without financial support, as men fail to fulfill their alimony obligations.

“Among the Kyrgyz, there is a tradition of ‘ene sutu’ (translated as ‘mother's milk’), where the groom pays money to the bride's mother. Let's make this practice official. Let the funds be placed in a deposit account that will be accessible in the event of a divorce. We could also consider introducing family guarantors who could assist with financial matters,” the MP suggested.

Members of the Jogorku Kenesh committee dealing with issues of the judicial system, law enforcement, and crime prevention discussed a draft law developed by the General Prosecutor's Office, which pertains to changes in legislation regarding enforcement proceedings. This document proposes the introduction of private bailiffs and stricter penalties for those who do not pay alimony.
