On February 9, 2026, various media and internet resources reported that a group of 75 citizens appealed to President Sadyr Japarov and Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbekov, urging the urgent organization of new presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan. Among the signatories of the appeal are scientists, former prime ministers, former deputies, and public activists, as stated in the ministry's announcement.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that some statements contained in this appeal have sparked a wave of discussions among the public and contributed to the deterioration of the political situation in the country.
Based on this incident, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 278, Part 1, of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, concerning mass riots.
During the investigation, all 75 citizens mentioned in the appeal were brought to the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for necessary investigative actions. The main initiators and active participants of the crime identified are citizens T. B. (born in 1955), U. E., and D. K. (both born in 1960). They have also been detained and placed in the temporary detention facility.
Investigative actions are ongoing, and searches are being conducted at the residences of the detainees. The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges the population to be cautious and not to succumb to provocations, as well as not to spread false information.
