The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan has initiated a proposal for the necessity of registering foreign driver's licenses for citizens who permanently reside in the country. This draft law, concerning road safety, has been put up for public discussion.

Currently, the existing legislation does not establish a clear procedure for the registration of such licenses, which creates gaps in driver accounting and complicates the enforcement of traffic rules. This also makes it more difficult to hold drivers accountable for violations.

In this regard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs proposes to introduce mandatory registration of all foreign driver's licenses at the State Center for Vehicle Registration for citizens of Kyrgyzstan.

Furthermore, it is proposed to include sanctions for late registration in the Code of Offenses: for individuals — 30 calculation indicators (3,000 soms), for legal entities — 130 calculation indicators (13,000 soms).

After the law is adopted, the procedure and deadlines for registering licenses in "Unaa" will be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers.
