A rare animal has been discovered in the Talas Mountains.

According to ecologist Gamal Soronkulov, a team of researchers using camera traps has confirmed the presence of the Indian porcupine (Hystrix indica) in the Talas Mountains. "Previously, we had found its tracks, but now the animal itself has become the subject of filming. The porcupine, sensing the device, approached closely and knocked over the camera, but it managed to take a few shots before that," he said.

Near the porcupine's burrow, places where it rested in the sun, as well as food remnants and quills, were found. This species is one of the rarest in Kyrgyzstan and is protected by the state according to the Red Book of the republic," noted the ecologist.
