The president stated that the possibility of purchasing driver's licenses is practically excluded.
In an interview with the National Agency "Kabar," President Sadyr Japarov commented on the rejection of the bill in the Jogorku Kenesh, which proposed testing drivers' knowledge of traffic rules on the spot.
According to him, the main goal of this initiative was to identify violators and check their knowledge of traffic rules. If a driver is not familiar with the rules, their license may be revoked, and they will be offered to take a retest.
Sadyr Japarov also noted that this approach has its logic; however, proper training of traffic police staff must be ensured before its implementation.
He pointed out that sometimes the traffic police officers themselves do not possess complete knowledge of traffic rules.
“I have always emphasized that many used to obtain driver's licenses without proper training. This leads to an increase in the number of accidents that affect our citizens. One way to solve this problem is indeed such an initiative,” the president added.
The head of state noted that if measures are not taken against violators, the number of traffic accidents will continue to rise.
In the president's opinion, it will now be practically impossible to buy a driver's license — the probability is 99 percent.
“The state has taken control of this situation. Drivers who previously acquired licenses without training need to be educated. Only then will the roads of Kyrgyzstan become safer,” he concluded.
