The snow leopard has become the national symbol of Kyrgyzstan
According to data presented by Asel Raimkulova, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee, the number of snow leopards in Kyrgyzstan has exceeded 550 individuals. This species has been officially declared the national symbol of the Kyrgyz Republic, and a logo and rules for its use have now been approved.
The Deputy Minister noted that a National Action Plan for the Conservation of the Snow Leopard is being implemented in the country, which will be in effect until 2030. This plan includes a set of measures aimed at protecting the population of this rare animal and preserving its natural habitat.
In addition, work continues to expand and improve the condition of specially protected natural areas, which cover a total area of about 792 thousand hectares.
The creation of an ecological corridor for the snow leopard, connecting the regions of Khan-Tengri, Sarychat-Ertash, and Naryn, has become an important step in the conservation of this species. It is expected that such a corridor will ensure safe migration for the animals and help maintain a stable population of snow leopards in the country.
