The snow leopard, captured in the Kemin district, has been temporarily placed in a rehabilitation center. This was announced at a press conference by the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision Almaz Musaev and the Director of the State Natural Park "Chon-Kemin" Adilbek Kasmaliev.

According to Almaz Musaev, the signal about the appearance of the snow leopard was received on December 29 from local residents of the village of Boroldoy. Park staff and specialists from the NABU rehabilitation center arrived at the scene, and the capture process continued until 5:00 AM on December 30.

A preliminary examination showed that the animal had no visible injuries, and its condition is assessed as satisfactory. However, considering the duration of the capture, the leopard may be stressed, so it was decided to keep it in the rehabilitation center for further observation.

The Deputy Minister noted that a more detailed examination of the leopard's condition is planned in the near future.
If its condition remains stable, the leopard is intended to be released back into the wild, most likely in the Kemin Nature Reserve.
Options for its accommodation in other protected areas or in the Karakol Zoo are also being considered if it cannot adapt to the natural environment. The sex, age, and weight of the animal have not yet been determined.

Almaz Musaev emphasized that the snow leopard does not pose a threat to humans and typically avoids contact with people, mainly moving at night. Its migration radius can range from 50 to 100 kilometers if there is a sufficient food supply.

Adilbek Kasmaliev, the director of the State Natural Park "Chon-Kemin," noted that the specialists of his institution will do everything possible for the swift return of the snow leopard to its natural habitat.

“We usually place wild animals in a rehabilitation center for treatment and assessment of their possibility of returning to nature. If this is not possible, they remain in the center. Close monitoring will also be established for this leopard,” he added.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the population of snow leopards in Kyrgyzstan is estimated at 500–511 individuals for the years 2024–2025, indicating a population increase due to conservation efforts and anti-poaching measures.
