Ministry of Natural Resources: There are no new large gas reserves in the Batken region

It is noted that the North and South Rishtan fields are well known and partially depleted.

The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision commented on rumors about possible new large gas reserves in the Batken region.

According to information from the Kyrgyz Geological Service, the North Rishtan field, located in the Kadamjai district, began its development in 1954. By 1993, its reserves were nearly fully depleted, and during this time, 46 wells were drilled.

The South Rishtan field, located nearby, was discovered in 1989. During the Soviet period, gas and oil extraction here was conducted by the Uzbek state. In 2000, the rights to these fields were transferred to Kyrgyzstan.

Although the license for the development of North and South Rishtan remained valid until 2028, it was revoked in December 2024, and extraction is currently not being conducted.

"As of January 1, 2025, the reserves of free gas in North Rishtan are estimated at approximately 44 million cubic meters, of which about 36 million cubic meters are considered recoverable. In South Rishtan, the geological reserves of free gas reach approximately 1 billion 916 million cubic meters, with about 356 million cubic meters recognized as recoverable," the official statement reports.

The ministry emphasized that these are long-known fields, and the information has already been officially registered by the state.
