As reported by Akorda, the decree to hold a referendum was signed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The scheduled voting will take place on March 15, 2026, and will concern constitutional changes.

The official draft of the new Constitution was published on February 12, 2026.

The referendum will pose the question: "Do you approve of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the draft of which was published in the media on February 12, 2026?"

Prior to this, the president was presented with the results of the Constitutional Commission's work on the new draft. Tokayev noted that the new Constitution symbolizes the final stage of institutional transformations in the country, reflects modern values and the foundations of state policy, and also creates "long-term prerequisites for the progressive development of Kazakhstan."
