The EU Commissioner for Economy commented on Trump's statements.
Amid rising energy prices caused by the conflict in Iran, the European Union reaffirmed its stance against any potential easing of sanctions on Russian oil. Valdis Dombrovskis, the EU Commissioner for Economy, stated on March 10 in Brussels: "We must continue to exert maximum pressure on Russia."
He emphasized that easing oil sanctions would be "counterproductive" and could "strengthen Russia's military capabilities." "It is extremely important to strictly adhere to" the established price cap on Russian oil, he added.
These comments were a response to a recent statement by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of suspending some sanctions on oil exports from Russia, made after his conversation with Vladimir Putin.
It is important to note that due to the conflict in the Middle East, there is a rise in energy prices in the global market, which could negatively impact the economies of countries such as the European Union, China, and India.
