An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 recorded at the border of Kyrgyzstan with China

On February 16, 2026, at 13:14 local time, an earthquake measuring 4.5 on the MSK-64 scale was recorded in China. The epicenter was located at the border with Kyrgyzstan, according to data from the Seismological Institute of the Kyrgyz Republic.

This event was felt in the Jeti-Oguz district of the Issyk-Kul region, particularly in the villages of Bedel and Ishtyk, where the intensity reached up to 3 points. Bedel is located 34 km south of the epicenter, while Ishtyk is 45 km southeast; the city of Karakol is 143 km to the south.
