A Million for Freedom or Jail: Pregnant Rhythmic Gymnastics Coach Detained in Pretrial Detention Center

The parents of the injured girl filed a complaint after discussing financial matters.

There is an active discussion online regarding the situation with rhythmic gymnastics coach Nazmi Askarova, who has been defended by Kyrgyz woman Aydai Aydarbekova. She claims to have information about the true circumstances of the case and considers it important to convey another side of the events to the public.

Recall that on February 20, Nazmi Askarova was detained in Bishkek. A criminal case against her was initiated by the Internal Affairs Department of the Oktobersky District under the article on "Causing serious harm to health." The incident occurred on December 24, 2025, when a minor girl was injured during warm-up at training.

Aydai Aydarbekova reported that initially, the father of the injured girl did not express any claims against the coach and understood that there are risks in sports. Nazmi stayed in touch for two months, trying to help with the girl’s recovery. However, the family then demanded a sum of $11,000 (approximately 1 million soms), threatening to go to the police and media if their demands were not met. After Nazmi's arrest, her relatives gathered the specified amount, but the injured party refused it, saying they would "think about it more."

"If the matter was about $11,000, why was it not accepted? Now that Nazmi is in pretrial detention, the stakes seem to have increased," Aydarbekova noted.

She emphasized that Nazmi has significant experience in gymnastics:

"She is a candidate for master of sports. She has been practicing rhythmic gymnastics since the age of 4 and has been working as a coach for over 5 years. She is in her fifth year at KGAFCiS. In 2024, she participated in an international conference in Lisbon. Rhythmic gymnastics is a complex and injury-prone sport. Everyone who sends their children to professional sports knows about the risks. It is also worth mentioning that the girl has had fractures in the past, which the family prefers not to discuss," Aydarbekova added.

According to her information, Nazmi is pregnant; however, she has been detained in pretrial detention for a period of two months.
