Fake GKNB employees deceived a Bishkek resident out of 12 million soms

In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, three men have been detained on suspicion of committing fraud amounting to 12 million soms. They posed as employees of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) and, using deception, acquired the wealth of an elderly person.

According to the city police department, on February 20, a 70-year-old man reported to the police that the criminals, who introduced themselves as GKNB employees, deceitfully obtained 12 million soms from him.

In connection with this incident, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 209 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, which pertains to fraud. Employees of the criminal investigation department were able to identify and detain the suspects—aged 19, 20, and 23—all residents of the capital, who have been placed in a temporary detention facility.

Currently, investigative actions are being conducted to clarify all the circumstances of the case and the possible involvement of other individuals in this criminal scheme.

Law enforcement agencies remind the public that employees of government institutions never ask for the transfer of bank cards, details, or confirmation codes. Citizens should be cautious and not provide access to their accounts to third parties. In case of receiving such offers, they should immediately call 102.
