A fake GKNB employee deceived a Bishkek resident out of 17 thousand dollars


In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, a man suspected of fraud under the guise of a GKNB employee has been detained. This information was provided by the press service of the Main Department of Internal Affairs (GUVD) of Bishkek.

According to available data, on December 19, 2025, a citizen approached law enforcement agencies. He reported that a certain fraudster, using WhatsApp, posed as a GKNB employee and promised to help free a person from a detention center. During the conversation, the criminal managed to seize 17 thousand dollars from the trusting citizen.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding this incident under Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan, which pertains to fraud.

During operational activities, the suspect—a man born in 1988, who had previous convictions and had been on international wanted list since 2022—was detained. He is currently placed in a temporary detention facility.

The police are now conducting additional checks to establish any possible connection of the detainee with other similar crimes. Investigative actions are ongoing.

The GUVD of Bishkek strongly recommends that citizens be cautious and not trust individuals posing as employees of government agencies who demand money through phone calls or messengers.
