Fraudster in GKNB disguise deceived and took $17,000

In Bishkek, law enforcement agencies detained a man who, posing as an employee of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB), defrauded a local resident out of $17,000. This was reported by the press service of the capital's Department of Internal Affairs.

According to the police, a citizen identified as U.J. contacted them, stating that an unknown person had reached out to him via WhatsApp. The fraudster introduced himself as an employee of the State Committee for National Security and offered "assistance" in freeing a person who was in a pre-trial detention center. As a result, the victim transferred the specified amount to him.



The investigative department of the Lenin District Department of Internal Affairs has initiated a criminal case under the article "Fraud" of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan. As a result of operational measures, A.T., born in 1988, who previously had legal issues and had been on the international wanted list since 2022, was detained. The suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility. An investigation is ongoing to determine his involvement in other similar crimes.

The Bishkek Department of Internal Affairs strongly advises citizens to be cautious and not to trust individuals claiming to be employees of government agencies who demand money via messengers or over the phone.
