On New Year's Eve, a tragic event occurred in the center of Amsterdam: the Vondelkerk, which has a 150-year history, burned to the ground as a result of a severe fire. The building is beyond restoration, as reported by ITAR-TASS.
The fire started at one o'clock in the morning, and soon the flames engulfed all the structures of the church, leading to the collapse of the tower. New Year's celebrations in the city quickly turned into chaos as thousands of fireworks exploded in the streets, often hitting windows, cars, and even people. One of the fireworks struck the wooden roof of the church.
The fire destroyed almost everything, leaving only the stone walls. The official cause of the ignition has not yet been established; however, local media report that fireworks launched by migrants may have hit an unprotected part of the building. Vondelkerk was built in 1872 and served as a Catholic church.

The Vondelkerk, which belongs to the neo-Gothic style, was designed by architect Pierre Cuypers and built between 1872 and 1880. Although the building is listed as part of the national cultural heritage of the Netherlands, it has not been used for worship in recent years and served as a venue for exhibitions and public events.
