At the 2026 Olympic Games, Mikhail Shaidurov from Kazakhstan surprised everyone by winning gold in men's singles figure skating. His competition started off not too well, as he placed fifth after the short program, but in the free skate, he delivered an outstanding performance, significantly complicating the elements of his routine.
His final score was 291.58 points, allowing him to confidently maintain first place throughout the tournament.
Among his competitors who could not surpass his achievement were:
Yuma Kagiyama, who won the silver medal with a score of 280.06;
Shun Sato, who received bronze with 274.90;
Ilya Malinin, who had several falls, ultimately finished in 8th place.
Shaidurov is also known as the silver medalist of the 2025 World Championship and the champion of the Four Continents Championship in 2025. His victory at the Olympics became one of the most unexpected in the history of men's figure skating and brought Kazakhstan a historic gold medal.
