The Football Association of Kyrgyzstan deeply regrets to inform about the passing of Georgy Shevchenko, a veteran of Kyrgyz football and honored master of sports of the USSR, at the age of 85.
From 1965 to 1971, Shevchenko played for the famous team "Alga," where he established himself as a strategist and reliable defender, as well as a talented game organizer. His teammates began to call him "Richard Sorge." In his first match for "Alga," he helped the team secure a confident victory over "Pahtakor" with a score of 4:1, and he himself scored one of the goals.
The 1967 season was particularly significant for "Alga," as the team was on the verge of promotion to the top league. At the end of this season, Georgy Shevchenko and his teammates were awarded the title of honored master of sports of the USSR.
After finishing his playing career in 1971, he began his coaching career, working with youth teams and proving himself to be a gifted educator. Under his guidance, young footballers won bronze medals at the USSR championship.
Kyrgyz football has suffered a loss, but the legacy and achievements of Georgy Shevchenko will forever remain in the annals of sports history.
