Georgy Shevchenko left a significant mark in the history of Kyrgyz football, becoming one of the key players of the famous team "Alga" during its golden era. From 1965 to 1971, he defended the colors of the club, having been invited by coach Nikolai Samarin from "Dnepr".
In the position of defender, Georgy demonstrated outstanding qualities: his strategic thinking and ability to anticipate the development of attacks allowed the team to achieve high results. Due to his confidence and intuition, his teammates nicknamed him "Richard Sorge," symbolizing his wisdom and insight. Shevchenko's reliable play contributed to "Alga's" victories on numerous occasions.
In his very first match for "Alga," he earned the recognition of the spectators and the respect of his teammates. In this match, the team triumphed over "Pahtakor" with a score of 4:1, and Shevchenko was one of the scorers.
The 1967 season was significant for the club: "Alga" played vibrant and attacking football, falling just a few points short of promotion to the top league. At the end of the season, Georgy Shevchenko and his team were awarded the title of masters of sports of the USSR.
In 1971, Georgy ended his career in professional football but continued to be actively involved in sports, becoming a coach. He worked with young footballers born in 1958 and proved to be a talented educator. As a result of his efforts, the team secured third place in the USSR championship among older youth in Kyiv, where clubs such as CSKA, "Dynamo" (Kyiv), "Karpaty," and "Zarya" participated.
Even after the end of his professional career, Georgy remained loyal to football. Until the age of 70, he played for the veterans' team of Kyrgyzstan, representing the country in matches in Almaty and Moscow. Each time, he stepped onto the field with his characteristic confidence and nobility.
