Indian runner Sufiya Sufi entered the Guinness World Records

Indian athlete Sufiya Sufi is now the holder of a Guinness World Record after she managed to set a new world record for women on the high-altitude Manali - Leh route.

She covered a distance of approximately 480 kilometers in 6 days, 12 hours, and 6 minutes, according to the official record documentation. Sufiya became the first woman to complete this challenging route through the Himalayas in such a short time. In comparison, the previous men's record for the same distance was about 120 hours, highlighting the uniqueness of her achievement.

During the run, Sufiya crossed five mountain passes and ascended to an altitude of over 8,000 meters. The route is considered one of the most extreme in the world due to the rarefied air, sharp temperature fluctuations, and difficult terrain.

The official confirmation of the record occurred in 2023. The athlete noted that she received the achievement certificate some time after the result was verified by a special commission.

Sufiya Sufi also has other national and world achievements in long-distance running, including a run of over 6,000 kilometers along the "Golden Quadrilateral" route, which she completed in 110 days.
