A wrestler from Kabardino-Balkaria won the first medal for the Kyrgyzstan national team

Malik Shavaev, a freestyle wrestler, has become the first medalist for the Kyrgyzstan national team.

Malik, a two-time champion of Russia, got the opportunity to represent Kyrgyzstan at the end of 2025 and already in December of that year, he won at the national championship.

In January, he was included in the team for the international Yasar Dogu tournament held in Turkey, where he competed in the weight category up to 86 kg, starting from the 1/8 finals.

In the first round of the tournament, Shavaev defeated his Turkish opponent with a score of 9:5, and then confidently won against a wrestler from Albania with a result of 12:2.

In the semifinals, he left no chances for another representative from Turkey, defeating him with a crushing score of 10:0 and securing his place in the final.

In the decisive match, Malik faced an Iranian wrestler, unfortunately losing to him with a score of 1:4 and earning a silver medal.

This award became the first for Shavaev as part of the Kyrgyzstan national team.
