On Valentine's Day, the Central Asia portal presented material about the romantic stories of the presidents of the CIS countries and their wives.
Azerbaijan. Ilham Aliyev and Mehriban Aliyeva
Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Lady of Azerbaijan, was born on August 26, 1964, in Baku. She was born into the intelligent Pashayeva family, known for their influence in the academic sphere and in business unrelated to energy.
The wedding of Mehriban Pashaeva and Ilham Aliyev, the son of Azerbaijan's first president Heydar Aliyev, took place in 1983. At that time, both newlyweds were students: Mehriban had just transferred to a medical institute in Moscow, while Ilham was studying in graduate school at MGIMO.
A year later, their daughter Leyla was born, and in 1989, already in Azerbaijan, their second daughter — Arzu — was born. In 1997, while in London, Mehriban gave her husband a son, whom they named Heydar.
