The Committee for the Development of Competition and Consumer Rights has analyzed the situation with propane prices in the domestic market. According to the latest data, on January 8 of this year, the price of liquefied gas reached 9.27 million sums ($766) per ton, which is an increase of almost 30% in less than a month.

Last year, 358 thousand tons of liquefied gas were sold on the exchange, of which 61% was local production and 39% was imported. However, starting from August of this year, the share of Uzbek propane began to decline, and in December it fell to less than 35%, and at the beginning of 2026, it dropped to 10%. The main reason for this decline is the distribution of local gas for the needs of the population and social facilities.

Last year, the starting price for Uzbek propane did not exceed 7 million sums ($578) per ton, while imported gas cost 8 million sums ($661). These prices were achieved due to the establishment of a ceiling price (no more than 20% of the starting lot value) and a reduction in the purchase limit from 10 tons to 5 tons per session.

However, in recent months, the average price on the exchange has increased due to the growing share of imported gas and rising demand in the domestic market, resulting in the price of propane now exceeding 9 million sums ($744) per ton.

In response to price changes, the committee is taking measures to stabilize the market, including regular monitoring of prices at gas stations. Currently, about 11% of vehicles in Uzbekistan use liquefied gas as fuel, which accounts for up to 5% of the total propane sales volume.

Additionally, the antimonopoly agency has urged activists and bloggers to refrain from spreading information about gas price increases on social media to avoid provoking further price hikes.

The committee promises to announce specific measures to stabilize liquefied gas prices on the exchange soon.

With the increase in exchange quotes, there is also a rise in propane prices at gas stations, where at the beginning of the year the price per liter rose from 6200 sums ($0.51) to 7000 sums ($0.58).
