Grocery basket. What has increased in price the most this year
Over the past year, the cost of the grocery basket has increased by almost 9%, although some products have become cheaper.

Every week, we analyze prices for the same products in one of the supermarkets in Bishkek. The price assessment for a family of four is based on consumption norms approved by the government of Kyrgyzstan in 2009. The list includes essential products such as bread, meat, potatoes, vegetables, fruits, sugar, milk, vegetable oil, eggs, fish, and tea. It should be noted that the data is approximate and does not take into account individual consumer preferences.

Since the beginning of our experiment in October 2018, the cost of the basket has more than doubled, increasing by 3,629 soms to 6,742 soms.
Since the beginning of 2025, the price of the grocery basket has increased by 686 soms, and compared to the end of 2024, it has risen by 559 soms.
The highest price increases were observed for meat (+101 soms), sweet peppers (+81 soms), and apples (+20 soms). At the same time, some products have become cheaper: cucumbers (-129 soms), rice (-30 soms), eggs (-10 soms), tomatoes (-10 soms). However, these decreases cannot compensate for the overall price increase.
Interestingly, by the end of 2025, the price of milk and fish remained stable, unchanged for the second consecutive year.

Price Dynamics of the Grocery Basket

Throughout the year, the cost of the grocery basket changed unevenly. It started at around 6,000 soms and experienced several phases of increase and decrease. The most significant price hikes were observed in spring and autumn-winter, while temporary decreases were recorded in summer.

The lowest price was recorded on October 18, 2025 — 5,791 soms. Meanwhile, the maximum cost was registered on December 6, 2025, reaching 6,927 soms.

Income Situation

The growth of wages, as in 2024, outpaced the increase in the cost of the grocery basket. The average income of Kyrgyz citizens increased by 19% and amounted to 42,919 soms. The minimum subsistence level also rose, although less significantly — by 11% (to 8,758 soms). This means that despite inflation, the real purchasing power of citizens of Kyrgyzstan has improved, although the overall level of expenses for the population has slightly increased. The most significant impact on family budgets was caused by the rising prices of meat and vegetables, which traditionally hold an important place in the diet of many families.
