With the approach of the New Year, we have updated the product composition of the festive basket. 24.kg has provided an estimate of the average consumer basket for Bishkek.
In the last two years, before the holiday, we have changed the components of the basket, taking into account the expenses for the New Year's table. Thus, we can analyze the change in its cost over the year. The price of the minimum set of products for the New Year's feast has decreased by 316 soms and now amounts to 8,925 soms. Compared to 2023, the basket has become cheaper by 283 soms. We researched prices for products in a supermarket, which is our regular shopping point. Below is the complete information about the products included in our basket and the reasons for their selection.
Interestingly, the price of bread and "Lambert" cheese has remained unchanged throughout the year. However, prices for green peas, sausage, cucumbers, tomatoes, sprats, pineapples, mandarins, kiwis, candies, red caviar, trout, and butter have significantly decreased.
At the same time, other products have become more expensive. Since most families plan their preparations for the New Year in advance, we decided that basic products (potatoes, carrots, onions, cereals) are already in stock. There will also be a jar of pickled cucumbers for Olivier salad and sandwiches with sprats. These items are not included in our basket.
From the standard set in the New Year's basket, we have apples, bananas, bread, meat, vegetable oil, fresh cucumbers, and tomatoes. Additionally, we added many festive products: red caviar, sprats, butter, trout, mandarins, pineapples, kiwis, quail eggs, canned peas, mayonnaise, smoked sausage, "Lambert" cheese, and chocolate candies.
We based our calculations on prices in one of the supermarkets in Bishkek, as many city residents are increasingly shopping in large stores. It should be noted that the calculations for product consumption are approximate. Not all families have the same food preferences and do not purchase in the same volumes. Therefore, our basket should be regarded as a social experiment rather than a definitive truth from 24.kg.
