The Olivier salad continues to hold a central place on the New Year's table for most families in Kyrgyzstan.
We conducted an analysis and calculated how much, on average, it will cost to prepare classic Olivier for the holiday.
The calculations used average prices in Bishkek at the end of December.
List of ingredients and their prices:
potatoes (1 kg) – 47 soms;
carrots (2 pcs.) – 20 soms;
boiled sausage (approximately 400 g) – 210 soms;
eggs (10 pcs.) – 130 soms;
pickled cucumbers (8-10 pcs.) – 100 soms;
green peas (1 can) – 150 soms;
mayonnaise (400 g) – 150 soms.
In total, about 807 soms will be needed to prepare classic Olivier.
However, actual costs may vary, as not all ingredients are used completely, and prices can depend on the brand and place of purchase. In any case, Olivier remains one of the most affordable and filling dishes for the festive table. Therefore, this traditional New Year's salad, made by hand, continues to be not only a part of traditions but also a sensible choice for gatherings with loved ones during the holidays.
