Strong solar flares possible on January 26-27

According to TASS, citing the Institute of Applied Geophysics, solar flares of class M are expected on January 26 and 27.

The institute noted that during these days, solar activity will mostly be at a low level; however, M-class flares are still possible.

Solar flares are classified by the intensity of X-ray radiation into five categories: A, B, C, M, and X. Class A0.0 represents the minimum intensity, equal to 10 nanowatts per square meter in Earth's orbit. Each subsequent category corresponds to a tenfold increase in intensity. Flares can be accompanied by coronal mass ejections, which, upon reaching Earth, can cause magnetic storms.
