On January 18, astronomers from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences recorded a powerful X-class solar flare, which will trigger G3-G4 level magnetic storms on Earth on January 20. Meteorological services also reported this.

This is the first flare of the highest class for the current year, which initiated a coronal mass ejection directed towards our planet. G3 and G4 levels in the international classification denote "strong" and "very strong" geomagnetic activity, respectively.

It is expected that the magnetic storms will affect people's health, especially those who are sensitive to weather conditions, and may lead to disruptions in the operation of satellites, communication systems, and electrical grids. Problems with radio communications and navigation systems are quite possible.

Experts emphasize that such solar flares and the associated geomagnetic disturbances are becoming more frequent under the current solar activity conditions, and recommend paying attention to space weather forecasts.
