Taikonauts conducted experiments with lithium-ion batteries

On the orbital station "Tianhe," taikonauts conducted a series of experiments with lithium-ion batteries, aimed at improving the efficiency of energy systems in the space environment, according to information from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The work was carried out by the crew of the "Shenzhou-21" spacecraft in collaboration with scientists on Earth.

As reported by the academy, the main focus of the experiment was on studying the effects of microgravity on important processes occurring inside the batteries. This will allow for the collection of scientific data that contributes to the improvement of energy systems in spacecraft.

Additionally, the academy emphasized that the unique conditions of microgravity provide excellent opportunities for studying the distribution of chemical substances in electrolytes.

The construction of the national orbital station "Tianhe" began on April 29, 2021, with the successful launch of the core module "Tianhe" into orbit, and the assembly of its configuration was completed on November 3, 2022. Currently, the basic structure of the station has a T-shape and includes the main module "Tianhe" along with two laboratory modules "Wen Tian" and "Meng Tian." The total weight of the three components is about 69 tons, and the total living space of the station reaches 110 cubic meters, allowing it to accommodate three people simultaneously or six during crew changes. The estimated operational lifespan of the station is 15 years, until 2038.
