Kyrgyzstan is self-sufficient in products for 6 out of 9 categories

As of the end of 2025, the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic announced a significant improvement in the country's food security. According to the official report, the republic currently meets its domestic needs in six out of nine main food categories: vegetables and melons, potatoes, dairy products, meat, sugar, and eggs.

Import is still necessary for categories such as baked goods, vegetable oil, and fruits and berries; however, the ministry notes a decrease in dependence on foreign supplies in these segments as well.

Data analysis over the past six years shows a positive trend in self-sufficiency:

The ministry highlights that the greatest successes have been achieved in sugar production and fruit and berry crops, where the share of local production has increased more than threefold. Support for the agricultural sector and the development of domestic production create a foundation for achieving complete food independence for the country.
