Kyrgyzstan entered the top 20 countries with the highest import dependence

According to the latest data from the World Bank for 2024, Kyrgyzstan ranked 17th among countries with the highest dependence on imports. The share of imported goods in the republic reached 84.2% of the gross domestic product (GDP).

Such figures are typically observed in small island nations or major logistics hubs, such as Hong Kong, which ranks first with a figure of 177.7% of GDP. In the case of Kyrgyzstan, this indicates its significant role as a transit hub in Central Asia.

For clarity, here are the positions of other CIS, Baltic, and Central Asian countries in this ranking:

Kyrgyzstan - 17th place (84.2% of GDP) Armenia - 25th place (76.4% of GDP) Estonia - 27th place (75.4% of GDP) Belarus - 42nd place (66.9% of GDP) Georgia - 61st place (55.6% of GDP) Tajikistan - 82nd place (48.4% of GDP) Uzbekistan - 103rd place (38.0% of GDP) Azerbaijan - 106th place (36.8% of GDP) Kazakhstan - 138th place (25.6% of GDP) Russia - 165th place (17.6% of GDP) Turkmenistan - 172nd place (11.2% of GDP).
