More and more Tajiks are choosing employment outside of Russia
In an effort to reduce dependence on Russia, Tajikistan is intensifying initiatives to find new opportunities for its citizens in the labor markets of Europe and Asia. Although Russia remains the primary destination for Tajik migrants, with 1.2 million entering in the first nine months of last year, the government notes a decrease in migration flows in this direction.
Remittances from abroad, which accounted for a record 45.4% of the country's GDP in 2024, showed a 50% increase at the beginning of 2025.
The new strategy of Dushanbe is focused on developing sectors such as agriculture, construction, and healthcare in more developed countries, while efforts to create new jobs continue in Tajikistan — about 280,000 vacancies were opened last year.
