In connection with the queues of trucks at the border, Kazakhstan has issued an official comment. According to the website of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), the prolonged customs procedures are due to measures aimed at combating the illegal turnover of goods. Astana emphasizes that such steps are directed at protecting national security and organizing the situation at the border.
Kazakhstan's position highlights that "grey" imports pose a serious threat to the economies of both countries and their international image. At the same time, the authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan stress that their strategy is based on sincere respect for the Kyrgyz people and the maintenance of allied relations, which should not suffer due to anti-smuggling measures. EEC representatives also noted that the introduction of control in this format is the exclusive right of national authorities and complies with the principles of Eurasian integration.
In response to this situation, the Kyrgyz side and experts emphasize the need for the digitalization of the control process. In Bishkek, it is pointed out that physical inspections slow down delivery times and increase the cost of imports. According to information from the media and relevant business associations, an effective solution to the problem will be the implementation of navigation seals. From February 11, 2026, mandatory navigation sealing will be introduced in Kyrgyzstan for alcoholic and tobacco products. Local authorities are confident that this will help speed up border crossings and increase the transparency of transportation, while avoiding the formation of traffic jams.
