In 2026, the structure of sown areas in Kyrgyzstan will be finally determined, as well as which specific crops will be sown in various regions of the country. This was announced by Bolotbek Tashtanov, head of the water policy and drinking water supply department of the Ministry of Agriculture, in an interview with a radio station.

He noted that calculations of the necessary water volumes for each region are being carried out in cooperation with district water management departments and local administrations. “We are clarifying how much water is needed and what the consumption will be in different areas,” he emphasized.

Tashtanov also added that if the water needs exceed the expected inflow volumes, farmers will be recommended to switch to certified, drought-resistant crop varieties. To ensure effective distribution of water resources, special headquarters have already been established in the regions. Their main task is to ensure fair and rational distribution of water.

By 2026, it is planned to install 1,500 water measuring devices, which will allow for accurate tracking of water supply volumes and losses, as well as more effective management of distribution in the current agricultural season.

According to meteorologists, precipitation is expected to be at the level of average annual indicators. However, Tashtanov emphasized that the annual decrease in water resources by 30-35% due to climate change creates additional risks for agriculture. “We again emphasize the importance of using high-yield and certified seeds, rather than questionable products from the market,” he added.

In addition, the ministry offers financial support to farmers and assistance in applying modern agricultural technologies. Specialists are ready to travel to locations and provide consultations for agricultural producers.
