- During the meeting of the Committee on Agricultural Policy, Water Resources, Subsoil Use, Ecology, and Environmental Protection, held on February 2, 2026, Deputy Bakyt Tentishev raised the question of whether the Bishkek CHPP is a source of air pollution.

In response, Mayor Aybek Junushaliev confirmed that the CHPP does contribute to pollution, but to a lesser extent compared to transportation and residential areas where coal is used for heating.

Junushaliev also reminded that the city administration took over the CHPP in 2024 and has since been actively working on modernizing its equipment.

Additionally, he noted that the CHPP has started selling ash, which was previously disposed of at the expense of the budget.

“Currently, we are selling ash at a price of 2900 soms per ton. Investors have installed new equipment that allows for the collection of ash directly from the smoke stack,” the mayor added.

At that time, the meeting also discussed the draft resolution of the Jogorku Kenesh "On the Environmental Situation Related to Smog."
