- On February 2, 2026, during a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on agricultural policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection, the issue of implementing the resolution of the Jogorku Kenesh "On the ecological situation related to smog," adopted on May 3, 2023, under number 1147-VII, was discussed.

Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision Meder Mashiev reported that several factors affect air quality in Bishkek: coal burning in the private sector (40%), emissions from old vehicles (30%), thermal power plants (15%), wind lifting dust (13.5%), and industrial enterprises (1.5%).

"In connection with this situation, an interdepartmental commission was established to carry out the tasks outlined in the resolution. In particular, in 2025, 54 settlements in Bishkek were gasified, allowing more than 51,000 subscribers to be connected, thus reducing average coal consumption by 100,000 tons. A fire at the landfill in Bishkek was also extinguished, and a solid waste recycling plant producing electricity was put into operation. In addition, work continues to increase the number of environmentally friendly transport and green spaces," noted Meder Mashiev.

He added that in 2025, the main efforts were focused on gasification (with the connection of more than 51,000 new subscribers) and addressing issues with the landfill (extinguishing the fire and launching the solid waste recycling plant with electricity generation). The program for renewing the vehicle fleet and gardening is also ongoing.
