Marius Borg Høiby, the 29-year-old son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been detained in Norway. According to the Norwegian agency NTB, the information came from Høiby’s lawyer. A court hearing is expected as early as tomorrow.
According to the Oslo police, Høiby was arrested last night on new charges, including alleged bodily harm, threats with a knife, and violation of a court order prohibiting contact. These incidents add to other cases already under consideration.
The total number of charges amounts to 38 counts. Among them are four cases of alleged rape, as well as physical and psychological abuse against several of his former partners. Investigators believe that some of the crimes were committed while the victims were heavily intoxicated or asleep.
The police have photo and video evidence supporting the charges. Høiby himself has previously admitted to using cocaine and alcohol, and has faced long-term drug problems. If the court issues a guilty verdict, he could face a sentence of up to 16 years in prison.
