The Earth is covered by a planetary magnetic storm

Magnetic storms have engulfed the planet, and at the moment their level corresponds to category G1. It is expected that in the next 24 hours, the intensity may increase to G2 and even G3. These phenomena are not the result of a single ejection but are caused by a general overload of the magnetosphere against the backdrop of extremely high solar activity recorded since the beginning of the month, sources report.

The cause of these phenomena was the arrival of the edge of a plasma cloud ejected by the Sun on February 2 during a powerful X8.1-class flare. Although the main flow of solar plasma has not yet reached Earth, the magnetic field has already begun to react actively, leading to the onset of the storm.

The most vivid effects are currently observed in the nighttime zone of the Western Hemisphere. Auroras have reached a maximum intensity of category 10 over Canada and the northern states of the USA. For residents of the European part of Russia, the situation will clear up in about 10 hours when the night line shifts to this region, and it will become clear how widely the auroral activity will spread.

Yesterday, it was noted that Earth unexpectedly came under the influence of the edge of a plasma cloud.

Earth found itself under the influence of the edge of a plasma cloud ejected by the Sun during a powerful X8.1-class flare.

Interestingly, the impact occurred nearly a day earlier than expected, indicating a high speed of solar plasma propagation. Despite the fact that this is only the peripheral part of the ejection, the effects are already noticeable.
