According to local publications, a wolf attacked the girl in the Shugnan district, and she died from her injuries, as reported by the media.
“A wolf attacked a 9-year-old girl, and unfortunately, she could not survive,” said a source in the local authorities. According to him, this tragic event occurred on February 9, when the third-grade student was on her way to school.
Other details of the incident have not yet been disclosed. Regional authorities confirmed that the governor instructed responsible officials to organize adult supervision for schoolchildren in mountainous areas. Residents were also advised to immediately report any sightings of wolves near populated areas.
This is not the first case of wolf attacks on people in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region. Similar incidents have previously occurred in the Shugnan district, where wolves attacked local residents — among the victims were both children and adults. Both victims in one such case were able to survive thanks to timely assistance.
