According to established rules, the right to obtain or renew a CDL is primarily granted to the following categories of citizens:
- citizens of the United States;
- holders of green cards, that is, lawful permanent residents of the USA;
- foreign citizens present in the USA on certain work visas;
It is important to note that having a work permit (EAD) and a Social Security Number (SSN) does not guarantee obtaining or renewing a CDL without the appropriate immigration status recognized by federal authorities in the USA.
