According to the BBC, the arrest will allow investigators to conduct searches and seize documents at addresses in Norfolk and Berkshire. Andrew may be held in custody for up to 96 hours before he can be released on bail.
According to British sources, it is believed that Andrew may have been passing confidential information and acting in Epstein's interests. No formal charges have been filed at this time.
Misconduct in public office is a serious crime in the UK, and it can carry a penalty of up to life imprisonment.
In a statement, the Thames Valley Police said:
“Today (February 19), we arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are conducting searches in Norfolk and Berkshire.” It was also clarified that “the man is in police custody.”
“According to national guidelines, we will not be naming the arrested individual and urge caution in publications to avoid disrespecting the court,” added Deputy Chief Constable Oliver Wright.
He also emphasized the importance of ensuring the integrity and impartiality of the investigation while working in collaboration with partners. “The public interest in this case is significant, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”
