The Ombudsman helped workers from Talas protect their labor rights and be reinstated at work

According to the workers, around 60 employees from a neighboring country began working at the site instead of them. “We were hired without employment contracts, but we have a timekeeping log, as well as photo and video evidence. We ask the Ombudsman to protect our labor rights and assist us with re-employment,” they stated in their appeal.

The institute sent an official request to the Labor Legislation Control and Supervision Service of the Ministry of Labor, as well as to JSC "GIK" and the Presidential Representative Office in the Talas region.

In a response letter, GIK explained that their organization is merely the client for the mortgage construction, while the actual work is being carried out by the state enterprise "Kyrgyzstroyservice".

During the review of the case, the institute's employees discovered that another company was initially responsible for the construction of the residential complex, but it exited the project without fulfilling its obligations. Later, the site was transferred to a new contractor.

After the institute's intervention, the current contractor agreed to consider the possibility of employing local residents if they possess the necessary qualifications and experience.

At the beginning of February, the applicants reported that they had been re-employed and expressed gratitude to the Ombudsman for the assistance provided.
