The Jogorku Kenesh approved in three readings the ratification of a $20 million grant from Japan for the reconstruction of the bridge over the Naryn River on the Bishkek–Osh highway.

- During the meeting held on February 26, 2026, parliamentarians approved the draft law "On the Ratification of the Exchange Notes between the Cabinet of Ministers and the Government of Japan," which is related to the project "Reconstruction (Construction) of the Bridge over the Naryn River on the Bishkek – Osh Highway to Enhance Connectivity with the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route." A Grant Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was also adopted. The signing of these documents took place on December 12, 2025, in Bishkek.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Ulukbek Janibekov provided information on this matter.

According to him, the main goal of the draft law is to improve transportation infrastructure between Kyrgyzstan and neighboring countries by reconstructing the bridge over the Naryn River, which will ensure uninterrupted and safe transportation.

“The construction of the bridge will take place in the Toktogul district of the Jalal-Abad region at the 315th kilometer of the Bishkek–Osh highway. The Japanese government is allocating a grant of up to 3 billion 190 million yen, which corresponds to 20 million 416 thousand 639 US dollars, for the project 'Reconstruction of the Bridge over the Naryn River on the Bishkek-Osh Highway to Improve Connectivity with the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route,'” the speaker added.
