From April 22 to 24, 2026, a Regional Environmental Summit (RES 2026) is scheduled to take place in Astana, which will gather both global and regional leaders to discuss key environmental and climate challenges in Central Asia, reports the Associated Press.

The event will be held under the slogan "A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future."

The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in collaboration with international and regional partners, is organizing the summit, which will serve as a permanent platform for strategic dialogue, coordination, and partnership building in the fields of ecology, sustainable development, and climate.

RES 2026 aims to strengthen Astana's status as an international center that fosters the development of practical solutions to pressing environmental issues in the region. Key topics will include water resource scarcity, glacier melting, land degradation, and biodiversity loss, as well as the growing pressure on limited natural resources.

The summit program includes three days of high-level plenary sessions and more than 20 thematic and country-specific sessions. Among the issues to be discussed will be the "green" transition from stated ambitions to real actions, strengthening climate resilience, food security, and sustainable management of natural resources, as well as financing mechanisms for environmental initiatives. Special attention is expected to be given to technology, education, and digital solutions for shaping a sustainable future.

Participants of the summit will include:

• Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan

• Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan

• Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan

• Vahagn Khachaturyan, President of the Republic of Armenia

• Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, President of Mongolia

• Li Junhua, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs

Organizers emphasize that the summit will not only be a platform for exchanging views but also a catalyst for implementing joint projects and investment solutions aimed at enhancing resilience in the region's energy, water, and food systems.

According to the initiators, RES 2026 is intended to promote regional cooperation and the implementation of practical measures that align with global climate goals and sustainable development objectives.
